Carrauntoohil Sunrise Hike
Enjoy the sunrise from Ireland's highest point!
Service Description
What can I expect from a sunrise hike of Carrauntoohil? All hikers will meet in front of Cronin's Yard Cafe at 2am sharp. Starting at Cronin’s Yard, the hike begins with a steady walk into the Hag’s Glen and begins to ascend via the Devils Ladder. Turning right from there, we will then begin the final ascent to the beautiful summit of the mountain. Here you will give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back, before soaking up the views of the sun rising over the very top of Ireland. After taking in your fill of the sights, a quick cuppa, and a bite to eat, we will retrace our path back down to the saddle, then down the zig-zag path before rejoining the trail back to our starting point. How long will it take? Depending on the pace, how many breaks you want to take, and how often you stop for photos, the whole hike can take from 6hrs - 7hrs total. What should I wear? This is Ireland after all, so we do recommend you come prepared with waterproof boots and waterproof clothing! Walking trousers or comfortable athletic clothes are ideal..please don't wear jeans! Mountain footwear is essential as this hike covers a rough mountain path that is rocky and unstable in some places. You may be turned away by the guide if you arrive in inappropriate footwear! Due to the added difficulty of the darkness, we do recommend hiking poles if you have them. Do I need to bring my own food and drink? Yes! Please bring an adequate supply of drinking water for the hike and something light to eat during our short break at the top...can't go wrong with sandwiches and a flask of tea! Anything else? Yes, don't forget your camera and your sense of adventure!
